UAE suspends exports and re-exports of Indian wheat for four months.
According to state news outlet WAM, the UAE's economy ministry has imposed a four-month suspension of wheat and wheat flour exports and re-exports from India.
The UAE's Ministry of Economy explained that the decision was made in light of recent international events that have impacted trade flows, as well as in recognition of the UAE and India's strong and strategic ties, particularly following the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and the Indian government's approval to export wheat to the UAE for domestic consumption.
Companies intending to export/re-export wheat and wheat flour varieties of Indian origin that were imported into the UAE before the 13th of May must submit a request to the Ministry for approval to export outside of the UAE, according to the Ministry. They must present all paperwork and files that aid in the verification of the shipment's data, including its origin, transaction date, and any other documentation that the Ministry may require.
India restricted wheat exports on May 14 except for those supported by letters of credit (LCs) already issued and to countries striving to ensure food security.
It has allowed the shipment of 469,202 tonnes of wheat since then. The restriction "applies to all wheat varieties, including hard, regular, and soft wheat, as well as wheat flour," according to the UAE Ministry of Economy.
Companies intending to export/re-export wheat and wheat flour products of non-Indian origin may do so after applying to the Ministry for export approval outside the country, according to the Ministry. All documents and files that aid in the verification of the origin of the shipment to be exported/re-exported must be supported by this application.
It highlighted that the export permit provided to enterprises is valid for 30 days from the date of issuance and must be submitted to the relevant customs agency in order to finish the processes necessary to export the shipment from the UAE.
We have recently reported that UAE is one of the five countries that has appealed for Indian wheat via diplomatic channels after India banned wheat exports on May 13. UAE’s wheat supplies from Russia became hampered after the Russia-Ukraine war started out. Other nations searching for Indian wheat are Indonesia, Oman, Bangladesh and Yemen.
